VA Healthcare & Disability

Combined rating went from 10%, then 90%, then 100% Permanent and Total

He waited nearly 40 years to learn he qualified for VA benefits

David Katz · U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

When David Katz left the Marine Corps, no one explained the VA benefits available to him. For nearly 40 years, he did not file a claim because he did not know he qualified. During that time, he paid for private medical insurance for more than 30 years without realizing he could receive healthcare through the VA.

After David shared his full military experience with Kenneth and Veterans For Veterans, he began to understand the benefits and support that might be available. Within six months, he was enrolled in VA healthcare and receiving care for the pain and medical concerns he had lived with for years.

David initially received a 10% disability rating. With continued guidance and support from Veterans For Veterans, his rating later increased to 90%. He then pursued an additional appeal and was ultimately awarded a 100% permanent and total disability rating.

Today, David has access to the healthcare and benefits he went decades without knowing he had earned. His message to other veterans considering Veterans For Veterans is direct: “I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

VA Benefits & Homeownership

Benefits as a blueprint: homeownership, education, and generational wealth

Ivan · U.S. Veteran

In this Veteran Voices story, Ivan reflects on the benefits that can shape a veteran's transition: the GI Bill, the VA home loan, and VA disability compensation. Drawing from his own experience, he explains how the VA home loan opened a path to homeownership and how disability compensation can strengthen a family's finances.

He also speaks to a moment many veterans know well — believing a rating does not fully reflect the impact of service-connected conditions — and why education and guided support matter right then.

His message centers on long-term stability: understand what you earned, make informed decisions, and use the benefits available to you as part of a broader plan for your family's future. Hear the whole conversation in the video.

VA Home Loan

A family's VA home loan journey in San Diego

A Veteran Family · San Diego, California

Buying a home in San Diego felt daunting. In this Veteran Voices story, a veteran and her husband share why location mattered so much to their family — and how the VA home loan expanded what was possible for them.

Working with a lender who understood the VA loan process gave them clarity and confidence from one step to the next, from first questions through closing day.

Their experience is a personal account, not a guarantee of eligibility, approval, costs, or timing — but it shows what can happen when an earned benefit meets informed support.
